Camden Council are seeking a motivated and capable Team Leader Shelter & Animal Management.
This is an opportunity to join one of Australia's fasted growing Councils at an exciting time, supporting the establishment of a new shelter facility. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in building operations from the ground up, while actively contributing to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of processes and services as the shelter is established. The successful applicant will help shape the role, influence service delivery, and support the successful launch and ongoing operation of the facility.
The position provides professional leadership and operational oversight across Council's animal management, compliance, and shelter functions, while ensuring high standards of animal welfare and community safety through the delivery of effective, customer focused services.

Essential:
- Demonstrated capability in conducting regulatory investigations, supported by either a recognised investigation qualification (such as a Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent) and substantial, contemporary experience performing investigation functions within a law-enforcement, compliance, or regulatory environment.
- Extensive experience in animal management operations, including shelter operations, animal welfare, animal rehoming, behaviour assessment, disease controls, and the application of best-practice animal care standards.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating community education and engagement programs that promote responsible pet ownership and support positive compliance outcomes within a local government orregulatory context.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant animal management and public space legislation, including the Companion Animals Act 1998, Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, and associated regulations, with the ability to interpret legislative requirements, provide accurate regulatory advice, and support consistent and lawful compliance decision-making.
- Highly developed decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure, time-sensitive, or complex situations, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute to continuous improvement in a regulatory or operational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to and promote a positive, professional, and values-driven team culture, including working collaboratively, supporting staff performance and development, and operating with integrity, procedural fairness, and accountability consistent with Council's core values.

Desirable:
- Training or certification in animal behaviour, welfare, or handling techniques
- Experience managing volunteers or community foster care programs
- Experience handling livestock in a working environment
