Opportunities for Veterans

Local government offers many roles that need the skills, qualifications and attributes demonstrated by veterans of the Australian Defence Force.

These could include trade skills, university qualifications, leadership experience, teamwork and adaptability, all of which are transferable to local government.

If you’ve recently left the Force, you’re likely to be highly trained with core skills such as critical thinking and decision making, leadership and teamwork, strong interpersonal skills, experience working in culturally diverse communities, resilience and dependability. Councils need people like you.

To understand how your skills and experience might relate to jobs in local government, the NSW Veterans Employment Program and the Office of Local Government have developed a Local Government Rank to Grade Guide to help veterans in their search for a civilian job.
