About the role
We are seeking an exceptional Team Leader Governance to guide a high-performing team. In this critical role, you will act as a trusted advisor, influence organisational integrity, support civic decision-making and strengthen public trust through contemporary governance practices.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the seamless operation of Council meetings, public forums and Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) meetings
- Provide expert advice to Councillors, senior leaders and staff on governance, privacy, information access (GIPA) and legislative compliance
- Champion Council's obligations under information access and privacy legislation, and manage complex information access applications and privacy matters
- Lead the development, review and improvement of policies, delegations, compliance frameworks and business processes to support best practice across Council
- Monitor governance performance, oversee statutory reporting and audits, and ensure Council meets its legislative obligations with integrity and transparency.
- Drive a culture of collaboration, service excellence and continuous improvement across the Governance team
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Business Law, Governance or a related discipline
- At least five years' experience in local government or a similar governance environment
- Strong knowledge of the GIPA Act, PPIP Act, Local Government Act and related governance legislation
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and motivate a high-performing team
- Experience managing information access, privacy, governance or compliance functions, including formal GIPA applications
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality
