Learning and Development Assistant / Officer
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Learning and Development Assistant/Officer to join Maitland City Council's People and Culture team.
Working closely with the Learning and Development Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for training enquiries and will coordinate the end-to-end administration of training activities across the organisation. This includes scheduling training, managing enrolments, liaising with participants and providers, maintaining training records, monitoring compliance requirements, and supporting the successful delivery of learning initiatives.
You will play a key role in managing and optimising our Learning Management System, ensuring training data is accurate, accessible, and meaningful. You will also identify opportunities to improve learning systems, processes, and reporting, while providing advice and support to employees and leaders on training-related matters.
In addition, you will support Council's apprentice, trainee and work experience programs, build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and provide administrative support to the broader People and Culture team as required.
The successful candidate will be appointed at either the Assistant or Officer level, with responsibilities and scope reflective of their skills, qualifications, and experience. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in learning and development while making a meaningful contribution to employee growth and organisational success.
About You
You will have experience working in Human Resources, Learning and Development, or a similar administrative environment, supported by relevant qualifications in human resources, business administration, or a related field. With strong attention to detail and well-developed organisational skills, you will be experienced in coordinating activities, managing competing priorities, and maintaining accurate records.
You will be confident using Learning Management Systems and other business systems and have a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process improvement. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills will enable you to build positive working relationships across the organisation and with external providers.
Most importantly, you will bring a collaborative, customer-focused mindset and a genuine passion for supporting employee learning and development. This role is ideal for someone who is organised, adaptable, and enjoys working with people while contributing to continuous improvement and a strong learning culture.
