The Role 

Help shape a safer, more sustainable Canterbury-Bankstown.

 

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Building Surveyor to join our Building Certification team. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise across a diverse range of developments while helping ensure building work throughout our City is safe, compliant and delivered to the highest standards.

 

As part of a collaborative and high-performing team, you'll assess applications, carry out inspections, provide expert advice and make informed decisions that contribute to quality development outcomes for our growing community.

 

What you'll be working on

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assessing building certification and development applications in accordance with legislative and Council requirements.
  • Undertaking critical stage and other required inspections.
  • Assisting with the certification of building works and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Providing expert advice to residents, applicants, builders and industry professionals on building and certification matters.
  • Managing a varied workload while delivering services within established timeframes and service standards.
  • Investigating and resolving building-related matters in a timely and professional manner.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the Development Unit to deliver quality outcomes for the community.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and team performance.

What you'll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying (or equivalent).
  • Registration as a Building Surveyor – Restricted (Class 1 and 10 Buildings).
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience in building surveying, including certification, compliance and assessment activities.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Building and Development Certifiers Act, Swimming Pools Act and the National Construction Code (NCC).
  • Well-developed investigative, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and deliver outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment.

 

The salary range for this opportunity is from $93,583 (Grade G, Step 1) + 12% super. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience.
