Join Lake Macquarie City Council and play a key role in ensuring our people are paid accurately, on time and in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
As Team Leader Remuneration and Benefits, you'll lead Council's payroll and remuneration function, overseeing the delivery of end-to-end payroll services for a large and diverse workforce of over 1300 employees. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you'll provide specialist payroll and remuneration expertise, lead a dedicated team and drive continuous improvement across payroll systems, processes and service delivery.
This is a diverse role that combines technical expertise, people leadership and process improvement. You'll act as Council's subject matter expert in payroll and remuneration, providing advice on payroll legislation, taxation, industrial instruments and compliance requirements, while also contributing to strategic workforce initiatives and organisational projects.

You're an experienced payroll professional who enjoys leading people, solving complex problems and delivering high-quality customer-focused services.
You combine strong technical expertise with excellent leadership and communication skills. You're known for your attention to detail, commitment to compliance and ability to build trusted relationships across an organisation.
Most importantly, you take pride in ensuring payroll services are accurate, efficient and employee-focused while continuously looking for opportunities to improve processes and systems.
You'll also have:
- Minimum Diploma level qualifications in Payroll, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline, and/or significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading payroll operations in a complex, high-volume environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience interpreting and applying awards, enterprise agreements and employment conditions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy, compliance and risk management.
- Experience implementing system improvements and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

- Competitive salary from $105,134 to $122,182 per annum plus 12% superannuation
- 35-hour work week with flexible working options including 9-day fortnight or 4-day condensed work week.
