The Opportunity
Your expertise in property legislation, acquisitions and strategic land management will help shape the future of Wollongong's property portfolio.
As Statutory Property Coordinator, you'll lead a specialist team of two Statutory Property Officers and act as Council's technical expert on statutory property matters. Working across a diverse range of land acquisitions, disposals, easements, road matters and property transactions, you'll provide trusted advice that balances legislative requirements, governance obligations and Council's long-term strategic interests.
You'll join a collaborative Property Services team and play a key role in the strategic management of Council-owned land while supporting and developing a small team of property professionals. Work closely with Councillors, senior managers, solicitors, valuers, consultants, landowners and community stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for Council and the community. You'll have the opportunity to apply your expertise across a broad and varied property portfolio.
This is a permanent full time 35 hour per week position. Salary from $113,911 up to $130,245 per annum, plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)
How you'll make a difference
- Lead and support a team of two Statutory Property Officers, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
- Manage complex land acquisitions, disposals, easements, leases, licences and road-related property matters.
- Provide high-level property advice and recommendations to senior management, Councillors and key stakeholders.
- Review and interpret legislation, contracts, valuations, survey plans, title information and property documentation.
- Coordinate negotiations with landowners, solicitors, consultants, government agencies and other stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, correspondence and recommendations for Executive Management and Council.
- Lead statutory property projects and provide strategic advice on the use and management of Council-owned land.
- Undertake site inspections and attend stakeholder meetings across the Wollongong Local Government Area as required.
About you
You are an experienced property professional who enjoys solving complex property challenges and building strong stakeholder relationships. As an experienced people leader, having managed a small team, you combine technical expertise with sound judgement and can comfortably move between detailed property discussions with industry experts and presenting recommendations to senior decision-makers.
You bring:
- Degree qualifications in Law, Land Economics, Valuation, Property or a property related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience managing statutory property matters, including acquisitions, disposals, easements, leases, licences or conveyancing.
- Strong knowledge of property legislation and statutory processes.
- Experience reviewing contracts, property documentation and preparing professional reports and recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor your approach to different audiences.
- Previous experience leading, coaching or mentoring staff.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
- A strategic mindset and the ability to balance legislative, governance and commercial considerations when making recommendations.
- A current Class C Driver Licence.
