This is a key leadership role at Lake Macquarie City Council, responsible for leading the Community Assets section within the Asset Management department. You will shape the future of community infrastructure across Lake Macquarie, including parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities, community halls, swim centres, libraries, boat ramps and jetties.

Currently the role leads three high performing teams

  • Recreation and Land Planning– strategic planning of new and expanded community assets and management of community land
  • Community Assets Management– asset lifecycle planning, renewals and revaluations
  • Community Assets Delivery– delivery of capital works programs, including design and construction

This role goes beyond operational leadership. You will drive long-term planning, influence investment decisions and lead programs of work that responds to growth, community expectations and evolving service needs.

Importantly, this is an opportunity to lead through change. With a new CEO being appointed, you will play a pivotal role in supporting organisational priorities as they evolve, fostering a positive, adaptive culture and ensuring your teams remain aligned, engaged and high performing.

What you will do

  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality outcomes for our community
  • Drive strategic planning for community infrastructure, including future demand and service levels
  • Lead change initiatives that improve systems, processes and service delivery
  • Manage large and complex capital works and asset management programs
  • Build strong relationships with Councillors, executives, community stakeholders and government partners
  • Oversee budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and delivery within targets
  • Contribute to Council’s long-term planning through the Integrated Planning and Reporting framework

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex programs and projects
  • Proven ability to review and improve systems, processes and ways of working
  • Strong financial management capability, including budgeting and reporting

  • Competitive salary from $143,292 to $168,578 per year plus 12% super
