Principal Engineer (Ref: 1343)

About the position:

This position leads and manages the Engineering Services function within the City’s Project Delivery & Engineering branch. The role is responsible for effectively co-ordinating the provision of municipal technical expertise, regulatory advice and engineering design across the organisation. The Engineering Services function delivers infrastructure engineering solutions that are practical, aligned with the community needs and aspirations, sustainable, and optimise life-cycle cost. All outcomes must comply with relevant legislation, City policies and procedures and relevant Australian standards.

Key accountabilities:

  • Effectively lead and manage the Engineering Services team to ensure the efficient delivery of the team’s outputs and services.
  • Develop, implement and monitor annual budgets and operational plans for the Engineering Services team.
  • Review, prepare and implement engineering procedures, standards and specifications to ensure that the Engineering Services team outputs are safe, fit-for-purpose and compliant.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide professional engineering advice to staff, other departments, management, Councillors, State Government representatives, and the community.

Position requirements:

The successful applicant will hold a degree in Civil Engineering with relevant experience in a similar role, bringing broad experience across community infrastructure planning, design, transport, drainage, and asset management, and proven ability to develop and deliver capital works programs and budgets. Have sound understanding of relevant standards, strong technical expertise, and the ability to apply excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills to deliver quality engineering outcomes for the community.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

This role is offered as a five (5) year fixed term contract. A salary package of up to $169,236.48 per annum will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.

v. Well-developed analytical, numeracy, financial management and administration, written, verbal and report writing and computer skills
