The Role
You are passionate about supporting children and young people to discover, learn and connect through library services, programs and experiences. With excellent customer service skills and a creative approach to program delivery, you enjoy creating welcoming and inclusive experiences for children, families, schools and community groups.
As a Library Officer – Children & Youth, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality library services, programs and events that inspire literacy, creativity and lifelong learning. Working as part of our dedicated Children & Youth Services team, you will develop and deliver engaging programs ranging from early literacy activities such as Rhyme Time and Story Time to educational, creative and recreational programs for school-aged children and young people.
You will also build strong relationships with schools, preschools and community organisations through outreach initiatives that promote library services and encourage participation across the Georges River community.
The Library Officer – Children & Youth role is part of our Library Operations Team and is primarily based at Clive James Library, Kogarah, with the flexibility to work across other Georges River Libraries locations as required.
In this role, you will:
- Undertake rostered duties at all Georges River Libraries to meet customer expectations.
- Deliver and promote library and information services that meet the diverse needs and interests of the community, encouraging literacy, creativity and lifelong learning.
- Assist in the planning, development, promotion and delivery of library programs, events and activities for children and young people.
- Contribute to the promotion of children’s and youth services through library publications, digital channels and community engagement activities.
- Deliver targeted community outreach activities that connect children, young people and families with library services and programs.
- Facilitate regular class visits, library tours and introductory sessions for schools, preschools and community groups.
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to library customers across all service points.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to create safe, welcoming and inclusive library environments.
- Assist with the collection and reporting of program and service data to support continuous improvement.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A TAFE Diploma qualification in Library and Information Science and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in library and information services and/or relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience implementing, promoting and delivering engaging programs, services or events that encourage literacy, creativity and lifelong learning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, deliver presentations and engage effectively with children, young people, families and community groups.
- A highly developed customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Well-developed organisational, analytical, time management and creative problem-solving skills.

What We Offer
- Permanent full time – 70 hours per fortnight
- Salary from $78,552.73 to $91,015.06 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
