We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 385,000 residents. 

 

The role 

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to join our People and Performance team on a temporary full-time basis for 12 months as a parental leave replacement. 

Reporting to the Team Leader Human Resources, this role will provide strategic and operational HRM and Industrial/Employment Relations advice and support to leaders and staff across Council. You will partner with client groups to build strong relationships, deliver practical HR solutions and support effective outcomes for the organisation. 

This is a varied generalist role where you will provide advice across employee relations, award interpretation, workforce planning, performance management, grievances, dispute resolution, recruitment and HR policy matters. 

 

Duties will include but not be limited to: 

  • Provide accurate and consistent advice on HR issues, Award interpretation and relevant HRM and IR/ER legislation.  

  • Coach and support leaders in relation to their HRM and IR/ER responsibilities.  

  • Lead and support the resolution of disputes, grievances, disciplinary and other industrial matters.  

  • Provide timely advice on employee relations, reward and benefits, workforce planning, performance management and business realignments.  

  • Negotiate, influence and constructively challenge decisions to support positive organisational outcomes.  

  • Develop, implement and review HRM policies and procedures.  

  • Build strong working relationships based on credibility, trust and open communication.  

  • Assist in the development and delivery of the Human Resources Business Plan and assigned projects.  

  • Maintain HR databases and systems and provide reporting to identify trends.  

  • Partner with the Talent Team to support attraction and recruitment activities.  

  • Coordinate and/or deliver training, inductions and refresher training as required.

The successful applicant will have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, IR, ER or similar, ideally at degree level.  

  • Well-developed HR generalist skills in an award-based environment.  

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting Awards and legislation relevant to HRM and IR/ER.  

  • Experience leading or supporting the resolution of disputes, grievances, disciplinary and industrial matters.  

  • Experience in recruitment and selection, ideally using behaviourally based interviews and psychometric testing.  

  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to provide practical, solutions-focused advice.  

  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.  

 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $104,465 (Grade H, Step 1) plus 12% super.
