We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 385,000 residents. 

 

The role

The Manager Children’s Services will lead and drive the strategic direction, innovation, and performance of a dynamic portfolio delivering high-quality, responsive services for children and families.

This is a senior leadership role where you’ll shape service excellence, champion continuous improvement, and ensure programs meet community needs, regulatory standards, and Council priorities. You will oversee operational and financial performance, strengthen collaboration across services, and lead the delivery of key strategic and statutory outcomes.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

 

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for Children’s Services, aligning operations with Council priorities and community needs.
  • Deliver high-quality, compliant, and financially sustainable services across a diverse Children’s Services portfolio.
  • Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams, driving workforce capability, performance, collaboration, and a culture of accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements while championing continuous improvement and service excellence.
  • Manage complex operational matters, including serious incidents, complaints, regulatory liaison, budgets, and resource planning.
  • Build strong partnerships with families, community organisations, and key stakeholders while representing Council across external forums and collaborations.
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and evidence-based decision-making, fostering a positive organisational culture that delivers responsive, high-quality outcomes.

You will have

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. Early Childhood Education, Social Services, or equivalent) and/or extensive equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Extensive experience managing multidisciplinary teams and multiple service types.
  • Demonstrated strong financial management experience
  • Demonstrated capability in service delivery and compliance
  • Demonstrated broad functional knowledge across multiple services
  • Demonstrated advanced leadership, analytical, and strategic capabilities
  • Experience in strategic workforce and service planning

 

The salary range for this opportunity is from $142,934 to $214,460 + vehicle allowance + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
