Regional Manager - Veterinarian & Animal Control - Nhulunbuy (Fixed Term 1 Year Contract)
 
 
We are seeking an experienced Regional Manager - Veterinarian & Animal Control Manager to lead the delivery of Companion Animal welfare and Animal Health Programs across East Arnhem Land. If you enjoy leading teams and working in a remote community environment, this role offers meaningful and highly rewarding work.
 
What you'll do:

  • Develop, implement and manage the delivery of appropriate Companion Animal Health programs
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver veterinary services at scheduled intervals throughout the year
  • Build strong relationships with community members to identify animal management issues and develop culturally appropriate solutions
  • Promote responsible pet ownership through a One Health approach to companion animal health programs
  • Collaborate with community members and Council to develop and implement ongoing management of Animal Control Policy and local laws
  • Develop educational resources and deliver animal awareness education across schools, workplaces and community settings, including community‑based approaches
  • Manage and negotiate stakeholder contribution and involvement of the Companion Animal Welfare and Control Program
  • Lead budgets, ensure timely reporting, and pursue new funding and partnership opportunities
  • Provide appropriate training, mentoring and support to Animal Management Workers and other Veterinarian and Animal Control staff
  • Support day‑to‑day operational needs while working closely with the HR team and other departments to ensure smooth, effective service delivery
  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

What we're looking for:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications as a Registered Veterinary Surgeon in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Veterinary Association and NT Veterinary Board
  • Hold and maintain a current registration with the Veterinary Board of the NT
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of animal welfare and companion animal health programs, reporting, and training
  • Demonstrated sole charge and independent veterinary skills working in a field environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of animal welfare and companion animal health programs, reporting, and training
  • High level of oral, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders and resolve conflict
  • Must hold a current C Class Drivers Licence, with the ability to drive manual transmission vehicles or willingness to attain

  • A competitive salary ($137,158.72 - 145,511.71, excluding super)
  • Fixed Term (28 September 2026 to 30 November 2027) contract with the possibility of extension
