About the Role

Maitland City Council is one of the fastest growing Local Government Areas in New South Wales and we are seeking a customer-focused Duty Officer (Planning & Building) to join our Planning and Development Team. In this role you will work on the frontline to provide our customers with exceptional and timely planning, building and development advice to help our customers navigate the complexities of the planning system.

You are a strong communicator who will deliver clear and concise written and verbal advice across a range of platforms including telephone, email, front counter (face-to-face) and digital channels. You will provide customers with expertise that enables them to understand their options, development pathways, site constraints, Statutory controls and Council's policies.

A key part of your role will involve contributing to the continuous improvement of the Duty Officer service through the development of resources, fact sheets and website content, to help our customers resolve their enquiries quickly and efficiently.

You will work closely with a professional team of planners and builder surveyors in a supportive, learning environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will hold Diploma-level qualifications, or be working towards relevant qualifications in the field of Planning, Building Surveying or similar, or have demonstrated working experience.

You will bring a proven ability to interpret development plans, along with a sound understanding of planning and building legislation, including zoning, site constraints, heritage, bushfire and flood considerations.

Importantly, you will also have strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and discuss planning and development concepts in clear, accessible language.

This is a permanent full-time role, working 35 hours per week with a salary ranging $98,093 - $108,883 + 12% super. Council also offers a range of benefits for its employees including:
