The Opportunity:

Our Senior Flood Specialist provides expert technical leadership in flood risk management across the Maitland Local Government Area. In this role, you will apply the NSW Flood Risk Management Manual to develop and implement effective flood risk management strategies that enhance community resilience.

You will lead complex flood risk assessments, oversee the delivery and technical review of flood studies and modelling projects, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to strengthen flood resilience and reduce the impacts of flooding.

Working closely with our Flood Specialist and broader Council teams, you will also assess planning proposals and development applications involving flood risk, ensuring decisions align with relevant legislation, guidelines and industry best practice to support safe and resilient development across the LGA.

About you:

You will hold tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning or a related discipline, or possess an equivalent combination of contemporary industry experience and expertise.

You will have demonstrated experience in developing flood risk management strategies, policies and guidelines, together with extensive experience applying flood risk management principles within the NSW planning framework.

A confident communicator, you will be able to build effective relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including the community.

You will also bring well-developed project management skills and a proven ability to lead complex flood mitigation projects.

This is a full-time, permanent role working a 35-hour week, offering a competitive remuneration package inclusive of a Motor Vehicle Allowance and Civil Liability Allowance (for eligible candidates) + 12% super.
