The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest councils in NSW with one of the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities. We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 385,000 residents. 

 

The role

 

Lead the operational management of Council's sports, recreation and community facilities, ensuring they are safe, inclusive, accessible and financially sustainable. The role is responsible to oversee the delivery and continuous improvement of community centres, sporting facilities, parks and public spaces while driving asset planning, stakeholder engagement, policy implementation and high-quality service delivery to maximise community benefit.

 

Duties will include but not be limited to:

 

  • Lead and foster a positive, high-performing culture across the Recreation, Community Facilities and Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre (MIISC) teams.
  • Manage staff performance, professional development and performance reviews to build capability and accountability.
  • Develop, implement and oversee key strategies and policies, including the Community Facilities Policy and the Get Active Canterbury Bankstown Strategy.
  • Build strong relationships with sporting clubs, community groups and key stakeholders through ongoing engagement and forums.
  • Oversee the operations, programming and management of the Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre.
  • Ensure efficient booking and utilisation of parks, sporting fields, community facilities and public spaces while coordinating with internal departments to maximise asset use.
  • Manage budgets, community leases and licences, and prepare annual fees and charges to support sustainable service delivery and revenue outcomes.

You will have

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Recreation, Sports Management, Business or related discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in managing financial budgets
  • Experience in the Sport and Recreation industry
  • Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain and maintain)

 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at 131,278 (Grade J, Step1) + Car Allowance + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
