As our Children's Centre Cook, you'll create delicious, nutritious, and culturally inclusive meals and snacks that support children's health, wellbeing, and development. You'll plan exciting menus, cater for individual dietary and allergy requirements, and ensure every meal is prepared with the highest standards of food safety and care.
You'll also manage kitchen operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining budgets, and keeping a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen. Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Plan and prepare nutritious, balanced, and culturally inclusive meals and snacks for children aged 0–6.
- Cater for individual dietary, allergy, and medical requirements while following strict food safety and cross-contamination procedures.
- Maintain exceptional kitchen hygiene, food storage, and temperature records in line with food safety legislation.
- Manage food ordering, stock control, and kitchen budgets while minimising waste.
- Work collaboratively with families, educators, and the Centre Director to meet children's dietary needs and continuously improve menus.
- Create a positive food experience by supporting children's wellbeing and following Council and Children's Services policies and procedures.

You will have:
- Current Food Handling Certificate (or willingness to obtain immediately)
- Current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Completed National Child Safety training
- Current CPR
- Previous experience in preparing and cooking meals in a childcare centre, school, aged care, healthcare, or commercial kitchen.
- Experience planning and preparing nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for young children.
- Demonstrated experience catering for food allergies, intolerances, and special dietary requirements (e.g. anaphylaxis, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, cultural and religious diets).
- Practical experience implementing food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures in accordance with relevant legislation and food safety standards.
- Experience maintaining kitchen cleanliness, equipment, and safe food storage practices.
- Experience ordering food supplies, managing stock, rotating inventory (FIFO), and minimising food waste within a budget.
- Experience maintaining accurate food safety records, temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and compliance documentation.
- Experience working independently while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well within a team
The salary range for this opportunity commences at $64,507 pro rata (Grade B, Step 1 for 30 hours per week) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
