The Opportunity:

Maitland City Council's Pathways program is a fantastic way to kick-start your career and gain professional experience in local government!

Commencing in January 2027, for a period of two years, we are looking for a Cadet Building Surveyor to join our organisation.

In this role, you will undertake a graduate program developed specifically for you, giving you exposure to a range of Building and Development projects undertaken by Council. You will have a training plan developed specifically for you, giving you the opportunity to obtain practical experience as a professional building surveyor, including provision of application assessment and advice services to Council and the wider community. These duties are going to help you develop a solid foundation to your Building Surveyor career and help you grow from the ground up!

About you:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Contemporary industry knowledge and understanding in building and development areas.
  • Be experienced in effectively prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines and continuous improvement.
  • Have experience or understanding in undertaking research, analysis and presentation of information.
  • Have a current Class C driver's licence.

This role is only suitable for those who are currently studying a degree qualification in Construction Management or a related discipline and, ideally, entering fourth year studies in 2027. However, please note, consideration will be given to third year students. You will need to be able to study part-time, as you will be given one day per week paid study leave.

Benefits:

This is a full-time, permanent role working a 35-hour week, with a base salary range of $1,116.30-$1,223.90 weekly + 12% super.
