Your Position:

Our Senior Governance Officer is moving interstate and we're looking for a new 'governance guru' to fill their shoes. So, if you're curious, level-headed and good at building relationships with stakeholders, this could be the role for you.

The Senior Governance Officer works closely with the Manager Governance & Risk to deliver and advise on
corporate and civic governance frameworks and support the delivery of a strong
ethics and integrity framework. The role is critical to the implementation
of business improvements and practical solutions that support the Governance & Risk team and the
wider organisation.

This role also provides strategic advice to councillors and
executive leadership and plays a key role in embedding ethical conduct,
transparency, and accountability across the organisation.

From time to time, the role may require attendance at
Council meetings outside of conventional business hours and this is managed by
taking advantage of Council's flexi time arrangements.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited
to:

  • Leading the
    management of Council’s policy framework, including policy development,
    reviews, register maintenance and advising others on the policy-making process
  • Managing, maintaining
    and advising on Council's Delegations and Authorisations Registers
  • Implementing
    and maintaining Council's legislative compliance framework and register
  • Providing high quality
    civic governance support, including councillor support, election support,
    and related civic governance systems, policies and advisory services
  • Promoting and advising
    on compliance with privacy management and principles
  • Coordinating and
    supporting Council's legal services panel
  • Supporting and promoting
    Council's ethics and integrity framework, which includes fraud and
    corruption prevention, public interest disclosures processes and Code of
    Conduct matters
  • Contributing to business
    improvement and supporting risk management functions as required

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications
    in business management, local government, law, fraud, and corruption
    prevention, or a related discipline; or significant contemporary
    experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge and experience
    in providing corporate governance guidance and in implementing governance
    frameworks
  • An ability to
    understand, interpret, advise on and apply relevant legislation
  • Experience in the
    development and maintenance of critical business documentation e.g.
    strategies, policies, procedures, compliance monitoring reports, business
    proposals, user education materials
  • Experience in
    successfully driving and delivering business improvement initiatives
  • Confident and effective
    interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to
    influence and negotiate, research, write reports and analyse information
  • An ability to diagnose
    and identify remedies to corruption control weaknesses
  • An ability to prioritise
    work and meet deadlines

Additionally, you will bring to this role the following:

  • The discretion,
    confidence and level-headedness required to liaise with a range of
    stakeholders to gather information or provide advice, including elected
    councillors, senior leadership, external integrity bodies, council
    officers and members of the public
  • Availability to work out
    of hours to support Council meetings, as required
  • The ability to work
    collaboratively in a small team
  • Local Government
    experience in NSW is desirable, but not essential
  • Knowledge of civic
    government support requirements is desirable, but not essential
  • Experience in
    investigating complaints is desirable, but not essential

Key Requirements:

  • Willingness to complete
    a National Police History Check
  • Willingness to complete
    a pre-employment health assessment
