Your Position:

The Coordinator Building Assessment & Safety leads and manages
Burwood Council’s building assessment, development compliance,
building, fire and pool safety programs, as well as certification
functions.

Reporting to the Manager Health and Building, the role supports all City
Design and Council business units in the delivery of high quality built form
and solutions to complex building / development safety and regulation matters.
These matters include:

  • Managing
    proactive development safety & education programs associated with: building
    safety upgrades, fire safety (incl. combustible cladding program), pool safety,
    road and activity application matters.
  • Managing
    Council’s Certification / PCA functions
  • Managing
    Development Compliance functions
  • Managing
    Structures over Council land safety program
  • Assessing
    and determining Building Information Certificate applications
  • Assessing
    and determining road, activity and application (e.g. hoardings / anchors / s68
    LGA Act)
  • Undertake the
    assessment of Subdivision Certificates as related to Councils functions (e.g.
    Linen Plan release, terms of instruments etc.) in accordance with legislation
    and policy.
  • Providing
    expert advice in the determination of development applications with regard to
    building upgrades (e.g. fire safety and access)
  • Providing expert advice
    at stakeholder forums
  • Attend Land and
    Environment Court proceedings as an Expert Witness as necessary.

To be successful in this role you will have:-

  • Tertiary
    qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent
  • Demonstrated
    extensive knowledge and ability to develop and implement proactive
    building & development audit, development safety & education
    programs associated with: building safety upgrades, fire safety (incl.
    combustible cladding program), pool safety, road and activity application
    matters
  • Demonstrated
    extensive knowledge of and experience in Certification / PCA functions for
    complex development types
  • Demonstrated
    knowledge of and ability to assess and determine Building Information
    Certificate applications
  • Availability
    to work out of hours and on weekends as required

Key Requirements:

  • Willingness
    to complete a National Police History Check
  • Willingness
    to complete a pre-employment health assessment 
  • Building
    Surveyor Accreditation at a minimum of A2 level under Building and
    Development Certifiers Act 2018
  • Swimming
    Pool Inspector Unrestricted (previously E1) Accreditation Building
    Development Certifiers Act 2018 (or equivalent accreditation under the
    Act)
  • Current
    NSW Class C Driver’s Licence
  • WHS
    General Induction (White Card)
