Your Position:

You will be Council's in-house expert on all
heritage-related matters in the City Design Directorate, with demonstrated
experience and understanding of heritage and conservation assessment, policy,
design, and management across strategic and statutory processes.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Collaborate across Council to plan, deliver, and
    manage heritage-related responsibilities.
  • Provide expert advice on strategic land use,
    planning, development, urban management, and heritage conservation within the
    Burwood LGA.
  • Prepare heritage documents, including impact
    statements, assessments, conservation plans, interpretation strategies, grant
    submissions, and research.
  • Apply heritage and planning legislation (e.g.
    Heritage Act 1977), including navigating approvals, exemptions, and consent
    conditions.
  • Recommend heritage considerations for policies
    and planning instruments such as masterplans, DCPs, and precinct plans.
  • Support high-quality urban outcomes by providing
    timely expert advice on development applications and contributing to
    strategies, plans, and council projects.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications, at degree level in
    Heritage Conservation and demonstrated experience providing Heritage Advice and
    Assessment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and
    sensitively, whilst developing working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to
    prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and implement
    high quality and effective education and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to represent Council in public forums,
    planning and design excellence panels, and court in a professional and
    knowledgeable manner
  • Availability to work out of hours and on
    weekends as required.
  • Willingness to complete pre-employment checks
    including a police check and pre-employment medical.

Key Requirements:

  • Current Class C NSW Drivers Licence
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
