The Opportunity

Join a team focused on shaping how infrastructure supports the community-now and into the future. As a Strategy Engineer, you'll play a key role in strategic asset management, helping determine whether the organisation can sustainably deliver the services it commits to through its assets.

Working within a specialist team, you'll collaborate closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders across infrastructure, property, community services, and finance. This role sits at the centre of decision‑making and translating technical asset data into meaningful insights that guide long-term planning and investment.

You'll work across a large and diverse asset portfolio, giving you exposure to different asset classes, services, and strategic challenges.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity, working 35 hours per week, with a salary range of $93,237.75 up to $117,354.76. A 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance may also apply. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).

This role places you at the intersection of strategy, engineering, and community outcomes-where your work directly influences long-term planning and service delivery.

What you will be doing

You'll contribute to strategic decision-making by analysing, interpreting, and connecting asset data with organisational priorities. Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Working across multiple service areas to understand asset requirements and service needs
  • Analysing infrastructure asset data to inform planning, funding, and investment decisions
  • Supporting the development of key corporate documents such as asset management and resourcing plans
  • Translating technical information into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders
  • Identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities within asset portfolios
  • Contributing to projects by planning work, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines
  • Supporting procurement activities and working with consultants or contractors where required
  • Collaborating with finance and business units to align asset planning with organisational strategy
  • Continuous learning across different asset classes to build capability and broaden expertise

About you

You enjoy thinking beyond design and delivery, you're someone who wants to understand the bigger picture and how infrastructure decisions shape services and communities.

You bring:

  • A degree qualification in Engineering, Asset Management, or a related field
  • Experience in infrastructure, asset management, or asset‑intensive environments
  • The ability to work independently, applying your knowledge to real-world, complex problems
  • Confidence working with asset data, systems, and analysis to inform decisions
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, meaningful information for different audiences
  • A curious and analytical mindset, with attention to detail and a structured approach to problem solving
  • An ability to build relationships across teams and work collaboratively in a diverse stakeholder environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of project delivery and procurement, and you're motivated to develop these further. You're comfortable navigating new challenges, learning quickly, and adapting your approach as needed.
  • Most importantly, you bring a growth mindset. A willingness to learn, improve, and contribute to a team that values collaboration, strategic thinking, and continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to Council's values of Respect, Integrity, OneTeam, Sustainability and Courage.
