JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Serials Officer to support the Team Leader Collection Services and the Collections team in delivering high‑quality, customer‑focused collection and collection development services. The role will be responsible for developing and managing the Library's serials collections in consultation with staff and the local community, ensuring collections reflect and meet the diverse needs of the Liverpool community.
This role contributes to Council's Library vision and strategic objectives by ensuring high‑quality, customer‑focused serials collections and services that meet the needs of the community.
The position supports consultation with management, specialist and branch staff, and the community to inform collection development priorities. You will assist in monitoring collection performance and budgets, maintain statistics and reporting, and support the efficient acquisition, cataloguing and processing of serials and newspapers to approved professional standards.
You will also support the delivery of training and communication to library staff concerning Serials Collections policies and procedures. Perform other duties as required from time to time including provision of direct customer support as required across the library network.
ABOUT YOU:
The successful applicant will have:
- Completion of, or progress towards, a diploma-level course, or equivalent, conferring eligibility for library technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
- Class C Drivers Licence
- Previous experience working in a public library and training staff on serials procedures.
- Participation in promotion and advisory programs.
- Ability to assist with information inquiries, including technology assistance.
- Experience with cataloguing procedures and collection management practices.
- Contributing to strategic planning and service development.
- Knowledge of professional standards and practices relating to the acquisition, cataloguing and processing of library materials.
- Knowledge of and competent use of library management systems, digital technology, and corporate systems. Specialised knowledge of serials and cataloguing modules and tools.
