About The Role

We’re seeking a motivated Senior Sustainability and Resilience Officer to deliver meaningful sustainability and resilience outcomes for Council and the community. You will drive the development and implementation of key strategies, polices and projects, including the Climate, Resilience, Biodiversity, Tree & Bushland strategies, the Electric Vehicle Position Paper, and broader urban futures planning.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Implement the content in the Climate, Resilience, Biodiversity, Tree & Bushland strategies, and the Electric Vehicle Position Paper.
  • Prepare and present high-quality reports, business cases, briefings and recommendations for Executive Leadership, Council and external stakeholders.
  • Drive the integration of sustainability, net zero and resilience principles across Council's planning, operations, asset management, infrastructure delivery and capital works programs.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide expert strategic advice on local government sustainability and resilience opportunities, risks and priorities.
  • Design and facilitate community consultation processes, workshops and engagement initiatives.
  • Support and empower Urban Futures staff through technical advice, knowledge sharing, guidance, and project collaboration.

This role requires connecting stakeholders, building trust, and embedding sustainability and resilience outcomes within Council’s governance and operations. Your work will deliver tangible community benefits and help shape the future of sustainability and resilience in the Sutherland Shire.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in sustainability, resilience, environmental science, engineering, planning or a related discipline, and/or extensive demonstrated experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and delivering complex sustainability, resilience and climate-related projects and programs.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build capability and foster collaboration.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively, exercising sound judgement, initiative and strategic thinking.
  • A current Working with Children Check and Class C Driver Licence are required.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders, contribute to cross-discipline projects, and identify opportunities for innovation in sustainability practises.

  • Package:$107,476-$119,782 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
  • Hours of work:Permanent Full Time.You will have the option of a 19 day month through Council’s flex system.
