Lake Macquarie City Council is seeking experienced and motivated Senior Pool Lifeguards to join our Leisure Services Team across our four Swim Centres.
You will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of water safety, customer service and facility operations. In addition to lifeguarding duties, you will support the day-to-day operation of the Swim Centre, assist with supervision of staff and contractors, and provide leadership in emergency response situations.
This is an excellent opportunity for aquatic professionals who enjoy leading by example, working collaboratively with others and making a positive contribution to community safety.
Multiple temporary positions are available for contracts until April 2027. Shifts are based on a 7-day roster with a span of hours from 4:00am to 9:00pm. Shifts are offered across the network of Swim Centers - located at West Wallsend, Charlestown and Speers Point. We are seeking candidates who are willing and able to travel to our Swim Centre locations as required.
What you'll do
- Provide constant surveillance of pool users and water bodies to ensure patron safety.
- Undertake preventative actions, emergency response and rescues when required.
- Facilitate the safe use of aquatic facilities by a range of user groups.
- Conduct water testing and take remedial action to maintain water quality standards.
- Operate, monitor and undertake basic maintenance of pool plant and equipment.
- Assist with cleaning, maintenance and presentation of facilities.
- Undertake cashiering, banking and administrative duties as required.
- Support the delivery of public education, aquatic programs and recreational activities.
- Assist with the supervision and operation of the Centre in the absence of the Team Leader or Duty Supervisor.

As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to successfully complete a practical fitness, rescue and skills assessment.

You are an experienced aquatic professional who leads by example and remains calm under pressure. You are safety-focused, proactive and confident making decisions in dynamic environments.
You enjoy mentoring others, building positive relationships with patrons and colleagues, and taking ownership of facility operations. With strong communication skills and attention to detail, you are committed to maintaining high standards of safety, customer service and operational excellence.
Most importantly, you are passionate about creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for the community while contributing to a high-performing team.
What you bring:
- Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation (SIS30122) or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in swimming centre operations.
- Strong water scanning and surveillance skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong planning, organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to successfully complete all fitness and skill requirements outlined in Department of Local Government Practice Note 15.
- Current Working with Children Check for paid employment.
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Community Recreation or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in a supervisory or senior role within an aquatic facility.
- Understanding of local government operations and public accountability.
- Knowledge of the role local government plays in delivering aquatic services and facilities.
