About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader – Development & Landscape Assessments, you will play a key role in assessing development applications and providing expert landscape, urban design, and arboricultural advice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct detailed landscape and tree assessments for development applications
  • Prepare clear, concise, and defensible assessment reports and recommendations
  • Provide specialist advice to internal stakeholders, applicants, consultants, and the community
  • Investigate complaints and unauthorised works, recommending appropriate mitigation measures
  • Represent Council at Planning Panels, site inspections, and Land & Environment Court proceedings as required
  • Ensure compliance with Council’s Environmental Management System Policy and corporate environmental standards and procedures

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Landscape Architecture or a related discipline, together with a current Class C Driver Licence and NSW Construction Induction White Card
  • Demonstrated experience in development assessment, landscape analysis, and arboriculture within a local government or similar regulatory environment
  • Strong knowledge of NSW planning legislation, development assessment processes, and local government frameworks
  • Sound understanding of landscape architecture, urban design, and environmental management principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, stakeholder engagement, and presentation of technical advice
  • Proven negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex matters
