Title: Network Engineer, TRP Contract - Full-time Role, 35 hours per week (initially 12 months with possibility of extension)

The Information and Digital Technology Unit within the Northern Beaches Council is responsible for the delivery of services that support the operational activities of the Council, enable delivery of services to the community by the various business units and allow direct access to information and services by the community.

Our opportunity:
You’ll work as part of the Infrastructure Operations team to support and enhance Council’s enterprise and cloud networks. Key focus areas include:
- Supporting and maintaining Council’s network and security platforms (including switching, SD WAN, firewalls, cloud connectivity and secure access services), with guidance from senior engineers where required.
- Building and supporting Azure networking components such as virtual networks, routing, and hybrid connectivity between on premises and cloud environments.
- Contributing to network automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives by developing and maintaining templates, scripts and documentation to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
- Proactively identifying operational and security risks and escalating or remediating issues in accordance with Council’s risk and change management frameworks.
About you:
You’re a proactive and analytical network engineer who enjoys learning, improving systems, and working collaboratively as part of a team. You understand the importance of clear documentation and knowledge sharing, and you take pride in leaving environments better than you found them.
We support a wide range of technologies and do not expect you to be an expert in all of them. Experience or exposure to some of the following (or equivalent technologies) will set you up for success:
- Enterprise networking and security platforms (e.g. switching, SD WAN, firewalls, secure access services)
- Azure networking concepts and hybrid connectivity
- Infrastructure as Code, scripting, automation, or configuration templating (with a willingness to learn and improve over time)
- ITIL aligned operational practices and a strong focus on operational stability and security
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are desirable but not mandatory.
