Join MidCoast Council as our Manager Environmental Health and Regulatory Services and lead a multidisciplinary team delivering services that protect public health, support responsible development and respond to community needs.

You'll oversee a diverse portfolio spanning environmental health, on-site sewage management, food premises, contaminated land, compliance, companion animals, beach vehicles and unlawful development. Bringing together strategic planning and operational leadership, you'll help your team deliver consistent, timely and practical outcomes while meeting Council's statutory responsibilities.

  • Provide clear direction, coaching and support to build a capable, accountable and customer-focused team.
  • Manage service planning, budgets and resources to meet operational priorities and statutory requirements.
  • Provide sound advice and reporting to senior leaders and Council on complex and sensitive matters.
  • Build productive relationships with community members, industry and stakeholders to negotiate outcomes and resolve issues.
  • Oversee community education and engagement that improves understanding of regulatory requirements and Council's decisions.
  • Review and improve work practices to strengthen service delivery and respond to changing needs.

You're a considered and approachable leader who supports people to do their best work. You can work through competing priorities, exercise sound judgement and communicate decisions clearly, including when the issues are sensitive or contentious.

What you'll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or another relevant discipline.
  • Extensive professional experience in a similar local government role in environmental health, regulatory services or a related field.
  • Extensive management or leadership experience overseeing a multidisciplinary team, preferably in a community-focused or politically sensitive environment.
  • A strong understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements, including experience preparing reports and documentation for legal matters and representation in the Land and Environment Court.
  • Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across the development industry and other stakeholder groups.
  • A commitment to high-quality customer service, supported by effective stakeholder engagement and an understanding of reputational risk.
  • Highly developed communication skills, emotional intelligence and the ability to positively influence outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, resources, consultants and contracts while meeting business and statutory deadlines.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make well-founded, merit-based decisions in a complex environment.
