About the role:

Walgett Shire Council is seeking a reliable and practical Library Coordinator to join our team. This is a permanent, fulltime role based in Walgett, NSW.

The Library Coordinator leads the coordinated delivery of public library services across Council's three branches at Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Collarenebri, in partnership with Big Sky Libraries. The role combines on-the-ground service leadership with responsibility for collections, digital services, community programming, partnerships, statutory reporting and grant funding.

A central focus of the role is improving access for the communities Council serves, including bridging the digital divide, supporting early literacy, and ensuring services and collections are culturally appropriate and meaningful for the Shire's Aboriginal communities.

About you:

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience:

  • Coordinating library or comparable community-facing services, including planning, prioritisation, performance oversight and continuous improvement.
  • Supervising and developing staff and volunteers, including across multiple sites or shifts.
  • Developing and delivering library programs aligned to community need including early literacy, children, youth, seniors, and digital literacy programming.
  • Working effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal communities, including supporting culturally appropriate programs, collections and engagement.
  • Using integrated library management systems and delivering digital library services, including eResources, public access computing and assistance with online services.
  • Identifying, applying for, managing and acquitting grants relevant to library or community service delivery.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with regional library cooperatives, the State Library of NSW, schools, early childhood and community organisations.
  • Complying with the legislative framework applying to NSW public libraries, including theLibrary Act 1939andLibrary Regulation 2018.
  • Complying with WHS,Child Safe Standards, records management, privacy and customer service obligations applicable to a public library environment.
  • Using computer-based library management systems, Microsoft Office and contemporary digital service delivery tools.
  • Planning and prioritising work effectively with minimal supervision, and communicating clearly with staff, partners and the public
  • Minimum three years experience working in a library, education, community service or similar public-facing service environment, including experience supervising staff or volunteers.

This position requires the following certifications:

  • Certificate IV in Library and Information Services (or Certificate III with substantial relevant experience), or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Current Working with Children Check clearance (or willingness and ability to obtain prior to commencement).
  • Current Australian Class C driver licence, and willingness to travel regularly between Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Collarenebri.
  • Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).
