Description
Play a key role in shaping data‑driven decisions by managing, capturing and maintaining vital spatial and planning data within our Geographic Information System. You'll provide expert geospatial insights, analysis and products that empower the organisation and our stakeholders with accurate, timely spatial information.
About the role:
- Provide professional geospatial support to the Planning and Regulation Division, delivering accurate and timely planning‑related spatial information across the organisation.
- Coordinate the management, capture, interrogation and maintenance of Tweed Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan spatial datasets - Council’s key statutory land‑use planning instruments - within the GIS.
- Ensure the integrity of all spatial data and attributes for Planning 10.7 Certificates, including managing and improving processes that synchronise attributes with Council’s property system.
- Deliver specialist spatial advice, analysis, mapping products and technical support to planning staff and other teams, contributing to informed and effective decision‑making.
- Develop, implement and maintain procedures that ensure the accuracy, consistency and currency of environmental, planning and statutory datasets across all GIS and mapping systems.

We are seeking:
- An experienced GIS professional with advanced skills in Geographic Information Systems and spatial information management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of planning regulations and proven experience maintaining Local Environmental Plan data and mapping standards.
- A specialist skilled in analysing complex spatial datasets and producing high‑quality maps, reports and spatial outputs.
- A critical thinker with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, including experience identifying and implementing effective business processes.
- An extensive understanding of NSW Planning Legislation - particularly Planning 10.7 Certificates - along with experience in data management, quality assurance and geospatial project delivery.
- Desirable: A Bachelor of Spatial Science or related degree in GIS or similar.

Where it's located:
This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
