As the Exhibitions Officer working in the Art Gallery, you will be responsible for supporting the annual delivery of exhibitions across the Art Gallery’s seven exhibition spaces. This support involves exhibition project coordination, administration, and the provision of skilled support in exhibition installation.

  • Permanent, part-time position (31 hours per week).
  • Remuneration package of $2,060.90 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $2,473.07 gross per fortnight based on part-time hours of work + superannuation (11%).

This position will be responsible to:

  • Coordinate sequenced activity in exhibition delivery across the annual exhibition program.
  • Coordinate all exhibition administration and record keeping including data entry of exhibition artwork.
  • Formal communication with external tour partners and artists regarding upcoming exhibitions.
  • Coordinate all freight management for exhibition artworks as well as seeking freight quotes and managing artist correspondence, agreements, condition reporting and Vernon collection management software.
  • Effectively manage the exhibition installation purchases within the allocated budget.
  • Manage the care of exhibition and installation resources including tools, equipment and temporary walls.
  • Schedule installation, booking installers and identification of installation task lists.
  • Provide skilled support in the physical installation of an exhibition including technical installation and creation of presentations.
  • Manage and track the safe movement of artworks in and out of collection and transit rooms.
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative, and productive relationships with stakeholders, including artists, curators, cultural institutions, and community groups.
  • Project coordination including schedule exhibition activities, coordinate logistics, develop timelines, obtaining quotes from external service providers i.e., freight, signage, printers, framers, photography.
  • Management of exhibition and project tracking documents to ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Undertake the role and representative duties of the Art Gallery’s Health and Safety (HSR) position.
  • Undertake tasks associated with the general operations of the Art Gallery as directed.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Qualifications relevant to the role e.g., tertiary qualifications in visual arts, art history, museum studies, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience relevant to the role such as in exhibition development from concept to delivery and evaluation.
  • Experience in project coordination including the ability to effectively coordinate activity and available resources in the delivery of an exhibition / exhibition suite.
  • Highly developed administration skills including the ability to prepare contracts and loan agreements, maintaining artwork records, and coordinating exhibition-related documentation including formatting signage and captions.
