The Role
As an Economic Development Officer, you will play an important role in supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of key economic development strategies, plans and initiatives that contribute to the prosperity and growth of the Georges River area.
Working collaboratively with local businesses, industry groups, government agencies, community stakeholders and Council teams, you will help deliver projects and programs that support business growth, attract investment and strengthen the region's economic competitiveness across Greater Sydney and New South Wales.
You will assist with research, analysis and stakeholder engagement activities, contribute to strategic planning and policy development, and support initiatives that attract investment, encourage business growth and promote Georges River as a vibrant place to live, work, visit and invest.

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Support the delivery and implementation of Council's Economic Development Strategy, helping to drive initiatives that strengthen the local economy and create positive outcomes for businesses and the community.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, industry groups, government agencies and key stakeholders, acting as an advocate for the Georges River area.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of economic development projects, including business support programs, talent attraction initiatives, night-time economy activities, smart city projects and place promotion campaigns.
- Undertake research and analyse economic data to identify trends, opportunities and emerging issues, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Assist in promoting and positioning Georges River as a thriving destination to live, work, visit and invest, aligned with Council's long-term vision.
- Provide advice and support on economic development matters to internal and external stakeholders, including Council staff, Councillors and the community.
- Collaborate across Council and external partnerships to support innovative projects, community engagement initiatives and opportunities that contribute to economic growth and prosperity.
About You
We're looking for a motivated and community-focused professional who is passionate about economic development and creating opportunities for businesses and communities to thrive.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Economics, Commerce, Business or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects and initiatives successfully, ensuring outcomes are achieved on time, within scope and to a high standard.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, collaborate effectively and influence positive outcomes across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- The ability to research, interpret and communicate economic, business and demographic trends, translating insights into practical recommendations and actions.
- Experience working with data and evidence-based decision-making, including the ability to identify opportunities, analyse trends and support strategic planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, briefing papers, presentations and other business communications tailored to different audiences.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear, engaging and accessible way.
- A proactive and innovative mindset, with a genuine interest in supporting economic growth, business success and community prosperity.
What We Offer
- Enjoy flexible working options, including flexible start and finish times, hybrid work (after probation), and the option of a 9‑day fortnight by working additional hours across the fortnight
- Permanent full time - 70 hours per fortnight
- Salary from $84,553.95 to $97,968.65 p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
