About the Role
Support the day-to-day operations of the District Team, delivering multidisciplinary maintenance and construction activities across key infrastructure assets, including roads, drainage, traffic facilities, bridges, and related structures. Lead, supervise, and coordinate the Drainage and Structures Team to achieve operational objectives, maintain service standards, and ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Council requirements. The key duties of this role include:

  • Civil infrastructure Construction and Maintenance activities City wide
  • Parks & Open Spaces maintenance
  • Key support role to senior Engineering management
  • Daily site co-ordination including organising gangers, crews, plant, hire equipment and contractors. Resolving any site issues.
  • Forward planning of construction or maintenance on-site works including monitoring the allocated budget for the task.
  • Arrange contractors including assessment of suitability and ensure registration with BNG Conserve prior to engagement.
  • Order materials and authorise orders and invoices.
  • Ensure the team's plant is maintained and plant check sheets are completed.
  • Supervise staff, trainees, contractors and park care groups, including covering absences, performance and behaviour management.
  • Promptly handle staff issues relating to unacceptable conduct and/or unsatisfactory performance
  • Review, interpret entitlements and approve timesheets. Monitor the use of overtime and higher duties.
  • Coordinate training schedules for staff.
  • Onboard and offboard staff.

Being available to be on-call and complete reasonable overtime is a requirement of this position.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

About You
To be successful in the position, you will have:

  • Certificate IV qualifications in Civil Construction/Maintenance or other related and equivalent qualifications and/or significant experience working in a similar level position.
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • General Construction Induction Training Card (Whitecard)
  • Current SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training Card for Traffic controller (TCR), Implement traffic control plans (IMP) and Prepare a work zone traffic management plan (PWZ)
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in the supervision of a multi-discipline civil engineering maintenance or construction works.
  • Experience in assessing hazards and managing risk issues related to maintenance and construction.
  • Experience in planning, programming and scheduling including the ability to lead and organise multiple crews.
  • Proof of right to work in Australia
