Building Surveyor (Building Policy)

Help shape and promote community health, safety and amenity across Blacktown City. As a Building Surveyor, you support the safe use and development of buildings by assessing applications, investigating compliance matters and providing technical advice on building and fire safety issues. Your work directly contributes to safer places for people to live, work and visit.
Working within Council's Development Compliance and Regulation team, you assess Building Information Certificate applications, inspect existing buildings and prepare reports as part of Council's fire safety audit program. You investigate complaints about unlawful building work, respond to enquiries from residents and industry professionals, and review matters relating to privately certified development. You also contribute to building policy, procedures and submissions, helping Council respond to legislative change and maintain consistent practices.
This role combines office-based assessment work with site inspections and stakeholder engagement. You apply building legislation, the National Construction Code and sound professional judgement to resolve issues, support compliance and protect public safety.
This role suits a motivated Building Surveyor with a degree in Building Surveying or a related field, solid experience, registration or eligibility for registration under theBuilding and Development Certifiers Act 2018, strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
