Building Surveyor
Your New Role:
Kempsey Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Building Surveyor to join our Development and Compliance team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across a broad range of building certification, development assessment and compliance activities while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of the beautiful Mid North Coast.
The role offers a high level of professional variety and autonomy, providing the opportunity to work closely with developers, builders, industry professionals and the community to support sustainable growth throughout the Kempsey Shire.
As a Building Surveyor, you will:
- Assess and determine construction certificates, complying development certificates, occupation certificates, building information certificates and related applications.
- Undertake a diverse range of inspections associated with development and building certification matters.
- Perform the functions and responsibilities of a Principal Certifier.
- Assess development applications and applications under relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act and Roads Act.
- Assist Council in meeting obligations under the Swimming Pools Act, fire safety legislation and building compliance requirements.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to developers, builders, consultants, staff and members of the public.
- Contribute to the delivery of quality development outcomes across the Macleay Valley.

About You:
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree qualification in Building Surveying, Building Certifying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Registration with Building Commission NSW as an accredited Building Surveyor (restricted or unrestricted).
- Demonstrated experience within building certification, development assessment or regulatory compliance.
- Sound knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, National Construction Code and relevant building legislation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build productive relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience using certification, GIS and Microsoft Office software systems.
- Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Current Class C Driver Licence.
