Tamworth Regional Council is currently seeking an experienced accounting professional to join their finance team and support the financial sustainability and compliance of council and our region.
This role is ideal for an Accountant with strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail. Sound experience with regards to account reconciliations between the general ledger and relevant subsystem would be viewed favourably. Previously accountants with extensive experience in public practice have successfully made the transition to Local Government.
The role requires someone with an enquiring mind who is able to:
- Facilitate best practice with regards to financial reporting, by ensuring reconciliations are undertaken regularly with detailed working papers to be utilised for internal and external audit processes
- Are able to undertake independent review of budget information at division level to facilitate regular communication with internal stakeholders on budget to actual comparisons
- Maintenance of the finance system to meet reporting requirements
- Facilitate continuous improvement of systems and procedures relating to financial functions
- Using a range of communication skills in the workplace including working effectively with others

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- Degree in Accounting or similar
- 3-5 yrs in Local Government or public practice accounting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience in high volume transactional accounting
- A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
- NSW Drivers Licence

Salary range: Grade 16 - $97,260.43 - $105,242.93 per annum plus 12% superannuation for a 35 hour work week.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake a Pre-employment Medical Screening including Alcohol & Other Drugs Testing.
Note - There will be a practical assessment at interview stage to give candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their bookkeeping knowledge.
