Are you passionate about the environment and looking for a role where your expertise can make a genuine difference? Join Mid-Western Regional Council as an Environmental Assessments Officer and play an important role in shaping sustainable infrastructure, protecting our natural environment and supporting the continued growth of our region.

Working across Council projects, development activities and operations, you’ll provide specialist environmental advice, assess potential environmental impacts, undertake site inspections and investigations, and work closely with the community, stakeholders and regulatory authorities. You’ll work across a range of priorities, using your environmental expertise to provide practical advice and help deliver projects across the region.

This is an opportunity to take your environmental knowledge out into the field and see the impact of your work across the diverse Mid-Western Region.

What you’ll be doing

No two days will necessarily look the same. You’ll have the opportunity to:

  Assess Council capital projects, development proposals and operational activities from an environmental perspective.
  
• 
  Provide specialist environmental advice to support sustainable decision-making.
  
• 
  Undertake environmental assessments, site inspections, monitoring and investigations.
  
• 
  Contribute to environmental planning, compliance and risk management.
  
• 
  Assist with environmental management plans, strategies and programs.
  
• 
  Work with community members, stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
  
• 
  Provide practical advice and solutions to support positive environmental outcomes.
  
• 
  Contribute to continuous improvement and Council’s strategic environmental objectives.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable, practical and passionate about making a difference.

You’ll bring:

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline.
  
• 
  Demonstrated experience in environmental assessment, management, planning, compliance or a related field.
  
• 
  Sound knowledge of environmental legislation, policy frameworks and assessment processes.
• Current Class C Driver Licence
• 
  The ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• 
  General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain

Please note, a Criminal History Check and WWCC is required prior to commencement.

The pro-rata salary range being offered for this part-time position is $2,701.04 - $3,039.76 gross per fortnight plus superannuation which equates to a pro-rata annual salary of $70,227.04 - $79,033.76 gross plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).

Based in the beautiful Mid-Western Region, this role offers the chance to work across a diverse natural environment while contributing to a growing regional community.

You’ll work across both office and field environments, with opportunities to get out on site and apply your expertise to real projects and environmental challenges. Site inspections may involve remote locations and rugged or uneven terrain, with travel within and outside the Mid-Western Regional Council area as required.

The successful applicant may negotiate a Working From Home arrangement or Flexible Working Arrangement, subject to operational requirements, while being available to attend Council sites when required.

Occasional weekend work may be required to support community events.
