Business Partner – People & Culture
Business Partner, People & Culture
Location: Tamworth, NSW
THE OPPORTUNITY
- Influence workforce planning, organisational change and positive people outcomes across Council.
- Provide strategic and practical HR advice within complex, fast-paced operating environments.
- Partner with leaders across Council’s diverse operational, project and blue-collar workforce.
COULD THIS BE YOU?
Are you an experienced HR professional who understands that effective business partnering means getting to know the business, not simply providing advice from the sidelines?
Tamworth Regional Council is seeking a capable and commercially minded Business Partner – People & Culture to partner with leaders across our Regional Services Directorate, supporting operational areas such as transport operations, civil construction and other essential frontline services.
This is a true generalist HR partnering role requiring someone who can balance strategic workforce priorities with the practical realities of a diverse, blue-collar workforce. You will take the time to understand each operational environment, build trusted relationships with leaders and employees and provide practical advice that supports both our people and the delivery of essential services to the community.
Working as part of Council’s broader People & Culture team, you will provide strategic and operational support across the employee lifecycle, including:
- Workforce planning, organisational design and structural change
- Performance management, conduct and employee matters
- Coaching and supporting leaders to confidently manage their people
- Identifying workforce risks, capability gaps and practical solutions
- Supporting succession planning and broader people initiatives
- Interpreting and applying relevant legislation, industrial instruments, policies and procedures
- Contributing to contemporary People & Culture policies, projects and continuous improvement initiatives
You will work closely with specialist teams across People & Culture, drawing on broader expertise where required to deliver coordinated, consistent and fit-for-purpose solutions.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong strategic and operational generalist HR experience, typically developed over five to seven years
- Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders and employees across operational, blue-collar or similarly complex workforces
- The ability to understand different operating environments and translate business needs into practical people solutions
- Experience providing advice across workforce planning, organisational change, performance management and conduct matters
- Strong relationship management, coaching, negotiation and influencing skills
- Sound knowledge of contemporary HR practices and the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, industrial instruments and policy
- The confidence to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and apply sound judgement in a fast-paced environment
- A current Driver Licence
- Working with Children Check clearance (WWCC)
Experience within local government, civil construction, transport, utilities or another operationally diverse environment will be highly regarded.
If you are a hands-on and strategic HR professional who enjoys building genuine partnerships, understanding how operational teams work and delivering practical outcomes, we would love to hear from you.
