About the Barkly Region

The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). Employing an average of 200 staff, of whom 63% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, we are committed to delivering services for residents of the region.

 

About the Role:

The position of Zone Manager Youth Sport and Recreation is responsible for the provision of mentoring, guidance, and support to our remote Youth Sports and Recreation (YSR) Team Leaders and operations support to the Regional Manager Safe Houses and Youth Recreation Programs.

 

The Essentials:

  • Relevant formal qualifications or equivalent experience in youth programs.
  • High level of competency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated experience compiling and submitting reports to meet KPI’s.
  • Current Driver’s Licence with 4x4 driving experience preferred.
  • A current Working with Children’s Clearance (OCHRE Card).
  • A current National Police Criminal History Check.
  • Willing to be able to travel and work in remote communities with the occasional overnight stay.

 

The Finer Details:

  • Full Time Salary position $87,014.91 per annum ($1,673.36 gross per week).
  • Tennant Creek Zone Allowance of $1.89 per ordinary hour.
  • 11% Superannuation.
  • 5% Leave Loading.

  • Relocation Assistance of up to $5,000.
  • The successful applicant may be eligible for a housing subsidy of up to $330.00 per week in compliance with the Council’s Tennant Creek Staff Housing Policy.
