What we are looking for

As part of this team you will work closely with the People and Performance team, WHS Committee and other relevant stakeholders to drive positive workplace safety and risk culture and lead the continuous improvement of Council’s WHS Management System.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with an ever-changing dynamic team within the Mid-Western Regional Council.

This role is a full-time, based on site in Mudgee.

The salary range being offered for this full-time position is $3,497.60 - $3,936.50 gross per fortnight plus superannuation which equates to an annual salary of $90,937.60 - $102,349.00 gross plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Council’s WHSMS, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and emerging safety risks.
  • Lead WHS risk management by overseeing audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Provide expert WHS advice, training, and support to management, staff, contractors, and volunteers, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Manage incident reporting and investigations, ensuring root cause analysis, corrective actions, and compliance with SafeWork NSW reporting requirements.
  • Assist the RTW Coordinator to oversee return-to-work programs and injury management, ensuring compliance with workers' compensation legislation and effective rehabilitation strategies.
  • Facilitate worker participation through the Health and Safety Committee, driving engagement in WHS initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor WHS performance through data analysis, trend identification, and regular reporting to the Executive Team for informed decision-making.
  • Lead WHS communication and engagement, including toolbox talks, executive briefings, and high-level safety discussions to reinforce WHS accountability.
  • Ensure the regular review and enhancement of WHSMS policies, procedures, and frameworks to align with legislative updates and best practices.
  • Promote WHS accountability across all levels of the organization, ensuring active participation in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Actively promote and demonstrate the core values and behavioural requirements of the Workplace Environment Statement.
  • Any other duties as reasonable directed by your Supervisor as it relates to the core functions of the role.
