The opportunity
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join Local Government and kickstart your career with potential to grow within the organisation. We have two positions available, if you have experience in a construction and maintenance environment or similar in operating plant and providing labour, then this is the opportunity for you. Federation Council is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, footpaths and drainage.
In this role you will:
- Operate Council plant when required such as but not limited to Water Carts, Rollers, Tractors, Medium Rigid and Heavy Rigid Carts.
- Undertake minor servicing of plant item on a daily basis or as required to ensure the servicing and tidiness of Council plant and equipment and the timely reporting of any defects at all times;
- Operate Cart safely for the purpose of delivering plant, equipment and materials to job site;
- Traffic control management duties as required and that traffic at work sites are appropriately controlled in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and standards, including the placement of signs, lights and barriers;
- Accurately complete documentation associated with plant and equipment operation including a pre-start safety checklist.
- Accurately record accomplishments on timesheets, plant sheets and daily running sheets.
- Traffic Control Management duties as required.
- Report any observed faults or defects to any Council assets to the Leading Hand or Team Leader as soon as reasonably possible.
- Operate all plant, tools, implements or equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Perform other tasks and duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training
- Opportunity to work on call and overtime may be required to assist in emergencies
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Current and valid Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence with demonstrated experience in road maintenance and construction.
- New South Wales Traffic Management Certificates or able to obtain within 3 months of commencement and a Construction Induction Certificate (White Card)
- Knowledge of WHS practices and ability to actively encourage and promote a safe working environment in a high- risk work environment.
- Demonstrated history of showing initiative in solving problems, improving work methods and productivity and contributing to a positive and proactive team culture.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $1176.90 per week with progression up to $1299.10 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
