About the role:

Walgett Shire Council is seeking a hardworking and reliable Urban Maintenance Worker to join our Lightning Ridge team.This role is suitable for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on, physical work, and being outdoors. The position is permanent and fulltime (38 hours per week).

The position of Urban Maintenance Worker is responsible forthe maintenance and presentation of Walgett Shire’s urban infrastructure, parks, and public spaces. The candidate will be required to operate and maintain hand tools and machinery, manage multiple tasks and priorities, work constructively as part of a small team, and followhealth, safety, andenvironmental regulations.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the roles requires acommitment to providing quality public service and promoting a positive image of Council and the Walgett Shire areato the community and public.

The successful candidate will require avalid Class C driver’s license and a WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card).Tickets in plant operation, chemical safety, chainsaw operation, and first aid will be highly regarded.

About you:

• Motivated and hardworking with a practical background in horticulture, maintenance, or water and wastewater
• Physically capable and willing to perform manual labour and work in adverse weather conditions
• Possess the skills necessary to carry out inspections, perform routine maintenance, and operate various plant and equipment safely and efficiently
• Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of safety procedures and strong commitment to workplace health and safety and environmental standards
• Able to follow instructions, work within timeframes, and have a willingness to learn and adapt
• Reliable, respectful, have a positive attitude, strong communication skills and willingness to contribute effectively to a team
• Understand the importance of public service and take pride in upholding the reputation of the Council and the community
