As Team Leader Building Design, you’ll lead a talented team of designers to create high-quality public buildings and spaces across Lake Macquarie. Reporting to the Group Leader Public Domain Design, you’ll play a key leadership role in design project delivery and people development.

You’ll be part of the City Projects Leadership Team, working collaboratively to turn great ideas into well-designed, community-focused outcomes.

This exciting role will:

  • Lead, mentor and support a team of building and design professionals
  • Deliver innovative, practical and sustainable design solutions for Council projects
  • Guide projects from concept through to construction-ready documentation
  • Manage priorities, resources and consultants to meet agreed timeframes and budgets
  • Provide expert design advice to stakeholders across Council
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, consultants and the community

You’ll balance hands-on design leadership with people development, helping your team grow while ensuring projects meet Council and community expectations.

We’re looking for a collaborative leader who is passionate about public design and people.

You’ll bring:

  • Qualifications (or equivalent experience) in building design, architecture or a related discipline
  • Experience delivering design solutions for public buildings or facilities
  • Strong design management skills, including consultant coordination
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing high-performing teams
  • Sound project and programme management capability
  • Confidence communicating design ideas to diverse audiences
  • Experience using computer-aided drafting and design software, such as Archicad

This position provides:

  • Competitive salary from $114,363 to $132,908 per year plus 12% super
  • Enterprise Agreement pay increases apply
  • Commencing salary set in line with skills and experience with annual reviews available to support movement through the salary range
