  • Salary $123,337.24 to $143,070.72 p/a + super
  • Permanent full time position – 35 hours per week

About the role

Council is seeking a skilled media professional to manage media relations, shape public messaging, and support strategic communication across the organisation.

 

Reporting to the Manager Corporate Communications, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic media advice to the Mayor, Councillors, senior staff and the Corporate Communications team
  • Manage relationships with local and metropolitan media to ensure accurate and timely coverage
  • Plan and deliver proactive media campaigns for Council projects, services and key issues
  • Prepare high-level written content including speeches, briefing notes, reports, and public communications
  • Monitor and respond to media coverage, including during emergencies or emerging issues

 

Required experience & skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in media relations, public relations, journalism or a related field
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Over 10 years’ experience in senior media, journalism or public relations roles
  • Exceptional writing skills across media releases, speeches, reports, and strategic plans
  • Proven ability to manage media relations and respond effectively under pressure
  • Skilled at translating complex information into clear, engaging public content
  • Strong understanding of government processes, legislation and the political environment
  • Confident communicator with experience in social media, stakeholder engagement, and crisis response
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
