Are you passionate about community service, lifelong learning and literacy? Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Library Assistant to help deliver high-quality library services across our vibrant network of public libraries.

As a Senior Library Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of our libraries, ensuring a welcoming environment and excellent customer service. You will also assist in leading programs, mentoring staff and embracing emerging technologies to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in training and mentoring new and existing staff.

  • Initiate and deliver programs and events for diverse community groups.

  • Engage the public with digital and traditional library resources.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of library services and customer experience.

Candidate Profile

We're looking for a candidate who is community-focused, approachable and committed to delivering high-quality customer service. Someone who has a professional and positive attitude, with the ability to support others and work both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Essential: Diploma (or higher) in Library & Information Services recognised by ALIA. Council may consider applicants nearing completion of qualification.
  • Experience in public libraries, demonstrating skills in staff development and customer service.
  • Proven ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate effectively.
  • Working with children check, and HLTAID003 Provide First Aid or willingness to complete within 3 months of employment.

  • Package: $67,752 - $71,706 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation.
  • Hours of work: Full-time 35 hours per week (with the option of a 19 day month). Applicants must be available work a range of shifts across a 7 day spread, between the hours of 8:00am - 9:00pm to support the operational requirements of the libraries.
