The Opportunity
 
As a Senior Communications Advisor at the City of Perth, you will provide high-level media and communications advice while developing and delivering proactive communications and media plans.
 
This role identifies, pursues and responds to media opportunities and requests, developing content for media, the web, social media channels, industry engagement activities, internal communications channels and other collateral. You will also contribute to the forward planning of media and communications activities across the organisation.
 
Reporting to the Lead, Media and Communications, your responsibilities will primarily include:
  • Lead and coordinate strategic communications across the City, working closely with Alliances and Service Units to support key organisational priorities.
  • Provide expert media advice and support to the Lord Mayor, CEO and Executive Leadership Team on emerging issues and reputational matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national media to enhance the City’s profile and ensure accurate and consistent coverage.
  • Contribute to major City strategies and publications, ensuring brand consistency and high-quality communications across all channels.
 
About You
 
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
  • Extensive experience in a senior media, journalism or communications role, ideally within a high-profile or politically sensitive environment.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary communications and media practices, including crisis communications and bought, owned and earned channels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear messaging across media, digital and internal channels.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders, supported by a relevant qualification in journalism, communications or a related field (or equivalent experience).
