ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Senior Claims Assessor, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of a portfolio of physical and psychological workers compensation claims. You will ensure claims are assessed and managed in a prompt, accurate, professional, and commercially effective manner in line with the Self-Insurance Licence, SIRA Workers Compensation Legislation (NSW), and all relevant standards, codes of practice, and internal policies.
A key focus of this role is to provide effective case management and ensure legislative compliance. You will monitor relevant legislation and promptly advise the Insurance & Claims Team of any updates or changes impacting the claims process.
In addition to case management, you will lead and support the organisation’s Injury Management and Return to Work processes, including liaising with the relevant business managers/supervisors for injury investigations, maintaining regular contact with injured workers, and ensuring all required documentation and consents are completed. You will facilitate communication with treating practitioners and managers/supervisors, helping to ensure injured workers receive appropriate support and achieve successful return-to-work outcomes.
You will also play an important role in stakeholder engagement, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to support claim progress. This includes coordinating with people leaders to identify suitable duties, attending case conferences, participating in SIRA performance meetings, and conducting site visits as needed.
As a senior member of the team, you will also provide coaching, mentoring, and support to the claims team, developing their skills in low complexity claims management, wage payment calculations, and preparing them for future succession opportunities within the team. Your leadership will contribute to the continuous improvement of the claims function and drive positive outcomes across the business
ABOUT YOU
The successful applicant will have:
- Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in managing workers compensation claims for a self-insured company preferred but not essential
- SIRA endorsed Return to Work Certificate
- Current C Class Licence
- An experienced Senior Claims Assessor with 5 years+ of NSW Self Insurance experience in end-to-end claims management.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex physical and psychological injuries.
- Demonstrated ability maintaining databases, with an ability to extract and analyse data including preparation of graphs and reports with a high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions at short notice and communicate effectively.
- Thorough knowledge of NSW Legislation in respect of Workers' Compensation and Injury Management and SIRA requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and to act with probity at all times.
- Knowledge of the statutory and regulatory environment associated with the insurance and claims management discipline, in the Worker’s Compensation area.
- Interpersonal and written communication at a high-level including negotiations and facilitation.
- Experience in report writing and trend analysis.
