About the role:

Are you an experienced finance professional with a passion for local government and a talent for leading high-performing teams? This exciting leadership opportunity within Council's Revenue Management team offers the chance to play a pivotal role in managing the financial health of the organisation. Leading a dedicated team of 12, you’ll coordinate the efficient raising and collection of Council revenue, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting across rating, water, and debtor functions.

This role goes beyond day-to-day revenue operations, with responsibilities that include overseeing Council’s investment portfolio of approximately $500 million, administering loan registers and banking services, and providing high-level strategic advice on financial policies and statutory obligations. Your expertise will help guide decisions at the highest levels, from preparing complex rating structures to enhancing finance systems and enterprise risk management frameworks.

With a strong focus on communication, you’ll regularly engage with a wide range of stakeholders—from the public and external advisors to government departments and professional bodies. Your ability to deliver clear, informed financial advice will support both operational efficiency and long-term financial sustainability.

What's on offer:

  • a base salary ranging from $115,562 per annum with competency-based increments up to $128,493 per annum, plus 11.5% super
  • In addition, a 3% Award based salary and 0.5% super increase from the first full pay week in July 2025 will apply to the rates mentioned above

We are seeking:

1.    Degree qualifications in Business, Accounting or Commerce.
2.    Substantial experience in a Senior Accounting/Finance/Rating position, preferably in Local Government.
3.    Working knowledge of current government statutory financial reporting and accounting practices, and/or statutory requirements and practices which apply to revenue/rating in the local government sector.
4.    Demonstrated knowledge and experience with an investment portfolio.
5.    Demonstrated knowledge/competence in the administration of financial management information systems, Technology One Financials, or similar financial software.
6.    Demonstrated competence in the use of Business Intelligence reporting.
7.    The role requires strong attention to detail, flexibility, and a focus on delivering quality service across the Unit’s work. You’ll need to handle a busy workload, support team members during peak times, and demonstrate a proven ability to lead and motivate staff. The position also involves following Council’s Enterprise Risk Management Policy as it applies to your role.

This position is based in Tweeds Heads and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
