River Service – Rear Loader Driver
Join Sutherland Shire Council's Recycling and Waste team in one of our most unique waste collection roles. Servicing approximately 50 river-access-only homes along the beautiful Woronora River, you'll play an important part in keeping our community clean while working in an environment unlike any other.
This is a hands-on role combining heavy vehicle operation, boat handling and waste collection. Working as part of a small team, you'll deliver reliable waste services to residents whose homes are only accessible by water, with river collections undertaken twice each week, while also supporting waste operations across the broader Sutherland Shire as required.
About the role
As the Rear Loader Driver – River Service, you will:
- Operate a rear loader waste collection vehicle safely and efficiently.
- Navigate and operate Council vessels to provide waste collection services to river-access-only properties along the Woronora River.
- Complete domestic waste, recycling and bin management services.
- Assist with illegal dumping collection and other waste operations as required.
- Conduct daily vehicle and vessel safety inspections.
- Work safely, follow Council policies and procedures, and provide excellent customer service to our community.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a small, supportive team.
About you
You'll bring:
- A currentHR Driver Licence.
- A currentBoat Licence.
- Experience operating waste collection vehicles or similar heavy vehicles.
- Demonstrated experience operating powered boats safely and confidently.
- A strong understanding of safe work practices and the National Heavy Vehicle Law.
- Good communication skills and basic mobile device/computer skills.
- The physical capability to undertake manual handling tasks.
- The ability to complete Council's Driver Verification of Competency (VOC) within three months of commencing.

- Package:$81,044 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation and all relevant allowances.
- Hours of work:Permanent Full Time, Monday to Friday. 38 hours per week, 9-day fortnight. Applicants must be able to work a range of shifts from 4:00am Monday to Friday.
