About the role

Are you an experienced Gallery Director who is looking to pursue their career in arts within the Northern Rivers and an arts ecosystem which has the largest population of cultural workers in NSW outside of Sydney?

We are searching for a new Regional Gallery Director to lead our passionate and creative team. While this role will focus on leading the day-to-day operations of the Grafton Regional Gallery, it will also be instrumental in building our creative industry and identity of the Clarence Valley.

About you:

  • Looking for an opportunity to continue to develop a significant regional gallery within NSW. 
  • Can bring strong leadership to manage day to day operations of a regional gallery including staff, finances, assets, contract management and WHS. 
  • Have a strong network of professional partnerships locally, regionally and nationally to support you in developing, negotiating and leading the delivery of an artistic program that continues to celebrate our local cultural identity.
  • Understand local government and can contribute to developing and delivering a renewed Cultural Strategy, and long-term delivery against annual operational plans and budgets.
  • Commercially minded and able to generate an income from retail operations as well as having a strong track record in identifying and sourcing new income to grow cultural programs.
  • Have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and ability to following Council policies and manage risks.

To be successful in this position, you will be someone who can cultivate an environment of innovation and excellence within the team.

You will lead the delivery of a rich suite of arts and cultural projects, programs, development activities, creative infrastructure, and curatorial and collections management outcomes for Clarence Valley. 

Success in this role will revolve around building key relationships and partnerships with individuals, organisations, and government departments to advocate and seek support for local creative opportunities and partnerships across the Clarence Valley LGA.

To be considered for this position you will need to:

You will need to demonstrate how you meet the focus capabilities and how your skills will enable you to achieve the key accountabilities.

  • Q1. Please provide an example of a creative program that you have developed and delivered that supported the delivery of an organisational goal.
  • Q2. Please provide an example of a time you have identified and secured funding to support the development of a new artistic program.
  • Q3. Outline your experience in leading a team in the day to day operations of a gallery.

This position is located at Council's Grafton Regional Gallery, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.

A probation period applies to this position.
